How to Install Wine on Linux Mint 20

As of July 14, 2020, the current version of Wine Stable is 5.0.1 and the latest Wine Development is 5.12. Unlike previous versions of Linux Mint, installing Wine directly from the WineHQ repository is not supported for Linux Mint 20. The Linux Mint 20 Software Manager offers Wine 5.0 and Wine 5.5. These versions can also be installed from Terminal.

To install Wine from Terminal

For Wine Stable …

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install wine

and for Wine Development …

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install wine-development

In either case, verify the installation succeeded.

$ wine --version
