Install apt-transport-https

Update the package database and do the installation.

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https

Check installed architectures

Verify 64-bit architecture. The following command should respond with "amd64".

$ dpkg --print-architecture

See if 32-bit architecture is already installed. The following command should respond with "i386"

$ dpkg --print-foreign-architectures

If it does not display "i386", execute the following.

Re-check with

$ dpkg --print-foreign-architectures

Add the WineHQ repository

Get and install the repository key.

$ wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key
$ sudo apt-key add winehq.key

Use the next three Terminal commands to add the Wine HQ repository for Debian 11 Bullseye to the list of repositories.

$ sudo cp /tmp/winehq.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/

$ rm /tmp/winehq.list

Execute the next command to update the package database.

$ sudo apt update

Install Wine

The next command will install Wine Stable. If you prefer Wine Development or Wine Staging, replace winehq-stable with either winehq-devel or with winehq-staging.
