Appendix: Wine Mono and Wine Gecko

As stated above, Wine Mono and Wine Gecko are Windows apps required for full functionality of a Wine installation.

"Mono is an open-source and cross-platform implementation of the .NET Framework. Wine Mono is a fork of Mono that Wine uses to run .NET Framework applications." See WineHQ re Wine MonoNew Window Icon

"Wine implements its own version of Internet Explorer. The implementation is based on a custom version of Mozilla's Gecko Layout Engine." See WineHQ re Wine GeckoNew Window Icon

Because Wine Mono and Wine Gecko are Windows apps, they can be installed only after Wine is installed and configured.
